Commandments 5 and 6

Commandment # 5 Honor thy father and thy mother, as Yahweh thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which Yahweh thy God giveth thee. Exodus 20:12

It is very important for children to honor their parents as a building block in society. When children are not raised to honor their parents they often grow in rebellion and anger towards them. In many cases, children are kicked out of the father’s house because they are so much trouble and an embarrassment to the parents. As quoted by Matthew Henry, "Children, obey your parents, come when they call you, go where they send you, do what they bid you, refrain from what they forbid you; and this, as children, cheerfully, and from a principle of love.’’

Every child is a reflection of his/her parents. The way they behave, look, act, and honor his or her parents really depends on how the child is raised. However, once children reach a certain age they will have to make their own decisions and it depends on those decisions how that child will live his or her life.

If you are a parent it is very important that your children should honor you. Some might ask, “Well how do I make them honor me?” The answer to this question is to follow Yahweh’s law. In Proverbs 22:6 it says, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he shall not depart from it.” The only way to do this is to love him or her by not sparing the rod.

How do you define child? Commonly this verse pertains to young children who are being raised in their father’s house, but it does not mean that when you leave your father’s household that you are no longer under obligation to honor your parents. Of course there are situations when you will have to make your own decisions and you will have convictions that may be different than your parents, but that does not mean that you cannot have these convictions and honor them at the same time.

Honor must be taught to a child. It does not come naturally. There are many times that I see a child who naturally wants his own way and rebels against his parents. Often they are given what they want. When that step is taken it breeds more selfishness and less honor towards the parent. The child may be less than a year old or in their teens, but if we do not love them with the love and discipline as we are taught in the Bible, children will not learn to honor their parents, and when thy grow old they will seek the lust of the world, and not the will of their Father in heaven.

He that spareth his rod, hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes. Proverbs 13:24

Commandment # 6 Thou shalt not kill. Exodus 20:13

This commandment is one that is repeated by Yahshua in the New Testament (Matt. 5:21, Mark 10:19, and Luke 18:20). In the letter that Paul wrote to the Christians in Rome he wrote this commandment. (Romans 13:9). Yahshua’s brother, James, also recorded this commandment in James 2:11.
This verse refers to family and our friends, neighbors, strangers and all the other people that dwell in our land. The verse has been taken to mean to some people that we literally should not kill, or we shouldn’t fight. That statement is perfectly unbiblical, because Yahweh himself commanded the Israelites many times to go out and kill.

This is one verse that I like to read out of another version where it says, “Thou shalt not murder.” Meaning that we are allowed to kill for the right reason such as, protecting ourselves and others. We are not to go kill out of self-centeredness or anger toward another person.

Everyone knows killing/ murder is wrong, right? Well, then why has it been made legal throughout the entire United States? Millions of mothers are killing their babies every day, but it is all okay, because the government has made it legal, right? Absolutely not! Actually the government and their laws contradict themselves, because what is the difference between murdering your baby or any other person. Yahweh created the babies that are in all those mothers wombs, but they don’t care, they just start taking things that burn the baby up.

Another problem in this country is what is done with murderers. What usually happens is the person that murdered is usually put in jail for some time, or maybe even a lifetime, or they may be let out on bail. Is any of this biblical? No! Yahweh said to kill any man that murders another. That might sound pretty harsh to you, but if that was the case and the people that were doing the murdering were put to death as it tells us to do in the Bible, I can guarantee that we would have a major cut down on the rate of murders in our country.

In the New Testament Yahshua expounded on this commandment.

Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. Matthew 5:21-22

Interesting to ponder what our nation would be like if God's laws for murderers and other criminals were carried out...
